Home > Big or Small? Part 2
Following on from our post on large format tiles, its now time to divulge what we know about smaller format tiles!
In contrast to larger format tiles, the smaller format allows you to have a much more precise aesthetic using pattern tiling methods such as ‘herringbone’, ‘chevron’, ‘brick-bond’ and many others.
These pattern options also allow for the colour, shape and size of the tiles to be customised individually providing a chance for a truly personal and unique home aesthetic.
As well as aesthetic benefits, smaller tiles serve a practical advantage too when in the process of installing. compared to larger tiles they are much more easily transported and installed without breakages.
Wastage is also mitigated with smaller format tiles when it comes to the end of the tiling process and cuts are made to fit the room, compared to larger tiles which will lose a much larger percentage to cuts.
From a maintenance perspective, if a tile happens to break through wear and tear, its much easier and cheaper to replace with individual small tiles being much cheaper than large ones.
Although cheaper individually, when buying in bulk they could cost more depending on the square meterage needed to tile.
Aesthetically, the smaller format tile can also make a smaller space feel more cramped which is only exaggerated with a busy tiling aesthetic.
